Mike Sands Folk Music Specialist!
I have been singing and playing folk music for over 60 years. Some of the better known songs in my repertoire include: Tom Dooley and The MTA Song by The Kingston Trio; Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul & Mary; Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot; and Blowing in the Wind by Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. I also do a lot of songs by Tom Paxton, Kris Kristofferson, and Pete Seeger. My programs are intended to be both educational and entertaining. **In addition, I am available to perform two special 90 minute shows, one on Railroading (“Lonesome Whistle: A Celebration of American Railroading”) and one on Woody Guthrie (“Hard Travelin’: The Life and Times of Woody Guthrie”), and I have DVD’s of each show.
Invite me to play at your Portland/Vancouver area facility!

Praise for Mike Sands:
“Mike Sands is a wonderful performer, especially for the older population. He recently performed his program, “Lonesome Whistler: A Celebration of American Railroading” for our residents here at CherryWood Village and was truly loved by all. He does Americana Songs which our population remembers so well. Sing-along-songs of Wood Guthrie are so much fun as they not only bring back memories of earlier days, but also get the group tapping and clapping! As the Life Service Director here for 8 years, I have formed many relationships with entertainers here in the area. I would heartily recommend Mike Sands as someone who would delight any senior audience.” Sue S., CherryWood Village
“An hour and a half of pure nostalgia. Mike’s songs, commentary, and little known facts about railroading, loosed a flow of memories of steam trains, and the nation of my youth. 73 years of images and sounds came back as I sang along and was deeply moved by the poetry contained in his repertoire. Mike Sands tells an epoch story with song and words of a era when every little boy wanted to be a railroad man.” George R., audience member
“We thoroughly enjoyed Mike’s program and it just happened that our daughter and adult son were visiting from out of state. They gave him high ratings also. He relates so easily to his audience.” Shirley E., audience member
“Very entertaining and educational. Good story-teller. Would like have him come back and do the Friday Social hour at CherryWood Village. We give him a five-star rating. “ George D., audience member
“Program at Cherrywood yesterday was super. I am old enough to actually know all your songs but never knew the background. Fascinating.” Marilyn S., audience member
“Excellent performance… the right mix of commentary and song… well researched, informative and interesting. Mike brought the history of the railroad to life. This is a top notch program…and it is fun!” Carol L. , audience member
