Judith “Sparky” Roberts Presents SparkyShows!

I can provide several different kinds of programs for your enjoyment:

1) VARIETY SHOW (may include partners): Novelty acts, puppets, poetry, songs, scenes and monologues (classic to contemporary)

2) IMPROV PLAYSHOP: No lines to remember, just spontaneous fun!

3) “BEHIND THE MASK” TALKS: About Shakespeare or aspects of Theatre

I am involved in the theater as an actor, director, teacher, and presenter. I created a street-theater troupe and formed several touring companies, and in the process acquired the nickname “Sparky”. I have also been a guest artist in museums, schools, prisons, and psychiatric facilities. I am an interdisciplinary adjunct at University of Oregon, and a long-time Instructor of Theatre Arts at Lane Community College. In my Sparky guise, I present musical Vaudeville shows for kids at the Shedd Institute for the Arts in Eugene. My unique foot-puppet act was performed on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and featured in international magazines, in books, and in Ripley’s Believe-It-Or-Not!

Can tailor shows to any and all HOLIDAYS!

I am based in Lane County, but available to travel if expenses reimbursed.

Praise for SparkyShows:

“I wanted to send some praise for Judith “Sparky” Roberts and her partner, Joe Cronin, for putting on a great variety show for us on Monday. Variety is the right word for the show that featured Elizabethan round singing, poetry - both original works and the works of well-known poets - dramatic monologues and scenes that varied from absurd to poignant. Judith and Joe were great to work with and went to considerable effort to create a show just for our center. They were happy to engage the audience and stayed to talk after the performance. They provided a touch of class and a change of pace that was much appreciated.” John B., Activities Director, Eugene Abbey

“It was a small taste of the inner satisfaction one must feel from performing a whole play.”

“You made me climb out of my shell, with body movement, voice, facial expression. My senses are awake. I’ve got to get this going in my life. I think I feel a passion coming on.”

“Joe demonstrates with his consummate acting.”

“When Judith and Joe perform, solo or together, they create magic – you forget everything else in the world except the world they weave.” Adult students

“I feel great about the work I’ve done. It’s astonishing how you are able to guide and awaken the spirit. You help free our bodies, spirits, and minds, and bridge the exercises to scene work. I’ve surrendered to the process, kept a journal, done analysis, and worked on memorization. It’s made me very happy.” Bill Woolum, English Literature Professor

“Through your dynamic and engaging style, you motivated our clients (who are considerably resistant and self-conscious) to experience drama and themselves in a new way. You very quickly build rapport and create an emotionally safe environment for our clients to take personal risks. And they do. You’re able to make fun drama activities into therapeutic experiences.” Director and Clinical Staff, Looking Glass Adolescent Recovery Program

“Judith has the ability to work with a very diverse population. Her style is at once loose and focused. She encourages freedom in everyone she meets – the freedom to explore, to take bold risks, to be whatever one chooses at any particular moment. She knows how to get out of the way and let her students shine.” Patrick Torelle, Theater Colleague

“Judith works well with all personality types and levels of ability, experience, and education.” Julie Baker, Conference Coordinator
