Therapeutic horticulture is the purposeful use of plants and meaningful plant-related activities to promote health and well-being for individuals and groups. It offers a wide variety of benefits, and can occur indoors or outdoors throughout the seasons. It comes in many formats, including activities, crafts, observation, and direct contact with plants and natural materials. Therapeutic horticulture is beneficial for anyone and everyone. Programs are tailored to fit the needs of the client. Needs, interests, and abilities are considered and adaptive strategies are used to accomplish goals.

Tara is an Oregon native and graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2006. She completed the Horticultural Therapy certificate program through Legacy Health System in 2008. In 2010 she became a Registered Horticulture Therapist through the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA). Tara is also a certified Activity Director, Master Gardener, and board member for the Friends of the Portland Memory Garden. She currently leads Garden Clubs at several senior communities and maintains therapeutic gardens at Legacy Emanuel and Good Samaritan Hospitals.
