professional pianist and teacher with 30 years experience including MANY

performances for seniors at local assisted living, retirement facilities

and hospitals. Although Elmira specializes in classical music, she is very

versatile–she also plays popular tunes, music from old movies, romantic

“candlelight” music, as well as tunes for holidays such as Christmas and

**Finally, a Magician! ElderAudience has just listed Brian Proctor, a very

popular “close-up, strolling sleight of hand magician” who loves

NEW COMMUNICATION GROUP FOR ACTIVITIES DIRECTORS!
**ATTENTION ALL ACTIVITIES DIRECTORS! New Yahoo group starting for Senior

Activities Directors in the Portland/Vancouver area! Michele at Courtyard

Village contacted me with a question, and we both thought such a group

would be useful. I believe a similar one was started in 2006 (PDX-ADFS)

but it appears to be inactive.To join, go to this address on the web:

(sorry, it’s long, I know)This group is a central place for activities

directors to exchange ideas and collaborate on activities of mutual

interest. Less formal groups (or even other official ones) may exist

Yahoo group serve as a tool for activities directors to strengthen their

communication with peers at other facilities and devise exciting and fun

ways to work together for the benefit of seniors!

UPCOMING EVENTS!

**Chocolate ahead!!! World Forestry Center, listed on ElderAudience under

Outings and Education/Instruction, is hosting an even bigger Chocolate

Festival this year (its 5th), Fri 1/29 from 6-9 pm as well as Sat 1/30 and

Sun 1/31 from 10am -5pm. Preview the Center’s newest exhibit, The

Chocolate Story, which opens January 30 and is on view through April 25.

The exhibit explores the history, production and consumption of chocolate!

**Well Arts Institute’s Voices of Our Elders project presents “Everything

New Again is Old” as part of the Fertile Ground lunchtime series on 1/22,

1/26 and 1/31, all at 12:30. Tickets only $5! Location is Mezzanine in

Gerding Theatre at the Armory, 128 NW 11th Ave in downtown Portland. Boxed

lunches are available through the Armory Cafe. More information at

this group’s program about a month ago and it was wonderful!
**ElderAudience listed Playwright and Author Sandra deHelen will

have the first half of her full length work “The Godmother” performed as a

staged reading on Saturday 1/23 at 12:30 pm, in the beautiful Gerding

Theatre Mezzanine (128 NW 11th Ave, downtown Portland.) Senior prices are

$8, with an additional discount for those who purchase an “all-event”

**Reminder about another musical group: In Cahoots, which is a

fun, energetic women’s quartet that loves sharing their four-part a

capella harmonies “with whomever they can persuade to listen!” Kristine,

Becky, Donna and Suzy have a repertoire that includes Broadway, gospel,

holidays, and American standards from the 20′s up to today, often in

classic barbershop style. Performances can range in length from a couple

of songs–for that special birthday or anniversary–to an hour (including

an oldies sing-along) depending on your needs! Read about In Cahoots in

**It’s been way a while since I mentioned the ElderAudience-listed

A Valentine Bridge Trio, who perform vocals with guitar that will bring

back so many memories!! They play tunes from the 20′s to the 60′s,

including those by Irving Berlin and Lerner/Loewe, as well as songs made

famous by Al Jolson, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat Cole

and Tony Bennett. How they describe themselves: “We tend to favor romantic

ballads that have a nice lifting musical bridge. That is how we got our

**Have you had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the Puddin’

River Jazz band?? This ElderAudience-listed group of 7-8 musicians

performs “high energy” New Orleans dance style swing-type jazz, including

Swing, Blues, Boogie and Swamp Beat! They say of themselves: “We are

lively–not a quiet background band!” Puddin’ River Jazz band makes great

entertainment for your special dances and facility marketing events! They

**FREE STORYTELLING EVENT!Everyone enjoys a great story, and Master

Storyteller Anne Rutherford has been performing a lively program of

stories, songs and poems for seniors for ten years! Please read about her

and our other storytellers in the Storytellers category or go to her

presents TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED, sponsored by the SPOKEN WORD LECTURE

Hillsboro, Oregon. Recommended for adults and mature teens.Anne performs a
