Nancy Downie–HAMMERED DULCIMER AND NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE
Nancy plays “music for all times”–historical and “old time” as well as contemporary–on the hammered dulcimer and Native American flutes. In addition to the unique and uplifting music, she includes anecdotes about history and culture, informative details about the instruments, and even the opportunity for a “mini-lesson” on the hammered dulcimer for those who might be interested.
She and her husband, Rob, also perform as the duo “Heartstrings“. Rob plays stand-up bass and banjo with Nancy on dulcimer, and they play Native American flute duets. They can provide either background music or a stage show.
In addition, Nancy is a Certified Music Practitioner through the Music for Healing and Transition Program. As such, she is trained to use the hammered dulcimer and Native American flutes to relax the mind and body and create a healing environment at the bedside or for small groups. She also plays for hospice patients, including those who are going through transition, as well as those with memory impairments.
Nancy (and Rob) will travel throughout Portland/Vancouver and the Mid-Willamette Valley. Check out the Heartstrings website for more information.
“Nancy Downie was a pleasure to have at our community. Not only did she captivate my residents with her delightful music, she also stimulated their minds with the knowledge and history of her instruments. Nancy is welcome back to Homewoods on the Willamette any day!”
