Dawn Weiss, Flutist–Elegant Classical Music

Dawn Weiss,  Flute Soloist, Recitalist, Speaker and Teacher (Former Principal Flutist of the Oregon Symphony from 1980-2005), performs elegant classical music with a variety of musicians. She presents Duo Concerts with either Piano, Guitar, Harp, Voice, or Flute, or Trios with oboe and piano, or two other flutes, or flute, cello and Peruvian dancer/percussionist. Concerts at your facility or event can range from strictly Classical music, to including a wider range of styles, adding lighter classics and more popular pieces!

Dawn also is a speaker on the topic of The Career of an Orchestral Musician, and is available as a coach to amateur flutists and flute ensembles. She has even published an article on “Playing and Studying the Flute After Age 39″.

Recent testimonial from a senior facility:

“Dawn Weiss, Flutist & accompanist Linda Lorati Barker on the piano gave a  unique performance of elegant classical music at Rose Schnitzer Manor in  January, 2010. Our residents commented on how relaxing and easy it was  to listen to their music. The sound was excellent! They are both clearly quite talented and have a symmetry that makes them work really  well together. Booking a performance with Dawn is trouble-free-she is well organized  and a great  communicator. It was a pleasure working with her.”

Recent reviews of Dawn Weiss’s performance of Carl Nielsen’s “Concerto for Flute and Orchestra” with the Vancouver Symphony:

Her years of skill were immediately obvious in the delicate, nuanced fluidity of her playing. She made the extremely difficult flute solo, marked by numerous dizzying cadenzas, come off sounding effortless and smooth, the mark of a great soloist. She used the flute’s lower registers brilliantly, delivering a deliciously husky timbre when playing down low.” – Lorin Wilkerson, Northwest Reverb, January 18, 2009

Weiss used a nice palate of colors to make her passages inviting and engaging. The conversation was often congenial yet darting as Weiss deftly handled passages that scampered about. She also phrased the brief lyrical themes with grace and kept the mood playful and vivid. – James Bash, The Columbian, January 17, 2009
