McElrath Cabaret- Classic Cabaret Musical Act & Shakespearean Theatre

McElrath Cabaret, the duo of K. J. and Athena McElrath, offer two different types of entertainment options—a classic cabaret music act and Shakespearean theatre.

In terms of their music, K. J. and Athena perform a classic cabaret act of piano and singing reminiscent of what you might have heard from the 1920s to the 1950s in New York’s most elegant and swankiest nightspots. With a popular mix of songs from the heyday of classic Vaudeville, Broadway and Hollywood, they bring warmth, humor and authenticity in style, entertaining enthusiastic audiences since 1996.

K. J. McElrath brings a wealth of talent and experience to his many musical endeavors, whether sharing his traditional jazz stride piano stylings or music directing for the stage, with performances at venues including Carnegie Hall, Preservation Hall and Carnival Cruise Lines. He regularly performs at retirement living communities throughout Clark County and the Portland Metro Area, as well as for fundraisers, private parties and other special events large and small.  He is the pianist with the Ne Plus Ultra Jass Orchestra, a 12-piece society jazz orchestra playing traditional jazz music from the 1920s to early 1930s, which holds monthly dances on the third Thursday of every month at the Village Ballroom in Portland.  K. J. is also a brilliant and highly versatile accordion player, and has played for many private parties, special events and in play performances, including Shakespeare’s As You Like It for the Portland Shakespeare Project at Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Portland Actors Ensemble’s Shakespeare in the Parks productions, and Masque Alfresco. As an accomplished arranger and composer, K. J. is a Portland Area Musical Theatre Award winning composer (2016—Outstanding Original Song with Steve Coker) and his band music is published by Kjos Music in San Diego.
