Programs are tailored to fit the needs of the client. Needs, interests, and abilities are considered and adaptive strategies are used to accomplish goals.

Tara is an Oregon native and graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2006.  She completed the Horticultural Therapy certificate program through Legacy Health System in 2008. In 2010 she became a Registered Horticulture Therapist through the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA). Tara is also a certified Activity Director, Master Gardener, and board member for the Friends of the Portland Memory Garden. She currently leads Garden Clubs at several senior communities and maintains therapeutic gardens at Legacy Emanuel and Good Samaritan Hospitals. Wellness by Nature’s Design offers a free initial consultation at your facility to discuss program possibilities.

Roots Cultivation & Design, LLC is dedicated to *passionately promoting the growth of Plants & People through meaningful garden connections. *Melissa Richmond brings the plants and nature experience to your Residents, while cultivating a sense of fun and exploration! Even if your facility does not have an outdoor garden space, Melissa provides the basic materials for this unique and engaging opportunity for participants up to a total of 15. Interactive educational presentations can be arranged for larger groups.

Melissa Richmond has an AAS degree in Horticulture and  finished the Horticulture Therapy Training Program with Teresia Hazen, MEd, HTR; through Legacy and PCC Gerontology. She has spent the past 7 years as the Organic Gardening Coordinator for an innovative Eldercare community. She is now providing services for several Assisted Living and Memory Care communities in the greater Portland area and teaching through the Multnomah County Library System.

Come Visit! The Festival is last weekend in August and Labor Day Weekend. Over 350 floral arrangements of dahlias in our indoor display rooms. These displays vary in size from 2-23-10 Swan Island Dahlia Farm free listingteacup to floor- to- ceiling extravaganzas! This is the largest display put on by one grower anywhere in the United States. There are floral arranging and culture demonstration twice daily during the festival. **If you can’t make the festival stroll through over 40 acres of dahlias in bloom August through September, 7 days a week, 8am to 6pm.

They are exceptionally calm and very huggable, come dressed for every occasion, and are especially enjoyed by visiting grandchildren! Please visit our website for more information.

Michele, the Activities Director at Courtyard Village Senior Community wrote after Rojo’s recent visit: “The one thing I thought was funny was that before Rojo came, my residents said “Why is a llama coming? What does he do? Does he entertain?” My response was ” He is just who he is – he’s just a llama,” and they thought I was nuts. I am corrected. Rojo is not just a llama, he is an amazing animal who melted everyone’s heart. The comment I heard the most from both facilities was “Can we keep him?” Rojo was fabulous at Courtyard…. Lori, I think you are absolutely fabulous with Rojo and people. You are so gentle and engaging. All my residents felt so welcome and comfortable around Rojo and that largely has to do with your presence. You are both a gift to all of us, Thank you so much for having the time to come.”
