Portland SugarPlum Elves

The Portland SugarPlum Elves is a women’s performance troupe, specializing in song and dance. For the winter holidays we have festive costumes, and sing and dance to many holiday favorites! During the rest of the year, our cheer doesn’t stop! We have colorful summer outfits, and perform singing telegrams, “feel good” song and dance routines, and other antics.

We love doing a more informal wandering act (roaming through an event), but can also perform a 30 minute set on stage. For retirement communities, we perform on a donation only basis.

Gypsy Heart Tribal–Improvisational Tribal Belly Dance

Gypsy Heart Tribal represents a community of gifted, accomplished, and dynamic *tribal belly dancers* who share a vision of the feminine energy and power their dance creates. The troupe honors women of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds with the diversity of its dancers and the global audiences they perform for.

Under the direction of Carol Vance, long time member and co-director of Gypsy Caravan, and in collaboration with the other dancers, Gypsy Heart Tribal is the new incarnation of the Caravan tribal belly dance experience created by dance legend Paulette Rees-Denis <http://www.gypsycaravan.us/>. This troupe of accomplished and experienced dancers represents a fusion of the classic Caravan vision of Tribal Style Bellydance, founded in 1991: the Gypsy Caravan Dance Company, the Caravan Dance Collective, Urban Berbers, Sister Caravan, Caravan Daughters, and the Caravan Soul Collective International.

Gypsy Heart builds on this heritage with a new interpretation of tribal belly dance for contemporary audiences and with a new generation of belly dance students. The artistry, beauty, and vision of Gypsy Heart draws on traditions—old and new— from cultures including the Middle East, Africa, Spain, and India.

They travel up and down the west coast to perform at a variety of events, such as birthday parties, weddings, festivals and street fairs. *Up to 9 dancers! * It depends on your budget and size of dance space, and is subject to dancers availability.* Evenings and weekend performances preferred, but some dancers are available weekdays.*

FREE Brown Bag Performances at the Performing Arts Center!

Portland Center for the Performing Arts offers a series of FREE noontime performances (45-60 minutes) of professional-quality entertainment, suitable for all ages:Acting, dance, music, lecture/discussion, and more! Monthly performances from September through June, with Weekly performances in July and August. Location: Indoors in the Rotunda of Antoinette Hatfield Hall, 1111 SW Broadway in downtown Portland, Oregon (October – May) or Outdoors on SW Main Street between SW Broadway and SW Park Avenue (June – September).

Royal Scottish Country Dance Society-SW Washington State branch

We have been performing at many Vancouver area Senior facilities for quite a number of years under the Vancouver USA Scottish Country Dancers. We recently became a full fledged Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society – home based in Edinburgh! We regularly participate in Kelso’s Festival, Pomeroy Farm’s Herb and Harvest Festivals, and other festivals and activities. Let us come to your facility or event to perform. Audiences can participate–we even have a wheelchair dance! We can also include musicians when they are available (piano, fiddle, bagpipes, and sometimes bagpipes and drum)

A little about Scottish Country Dance…

A typical “dance” consists of a group of “formations” that are put together in an interesting way. After one learns the basic formations, it will be possible to do hundreds of dances. There are over 6000 registered dances, some dating from the 1600′s, and enthusiasts are continually creating new dances. It is exhilarating to dance with a partner, to listen to the Scottish music, and to be part of a team of couples who are supporting one another throughout the dance.
