Anne Rutherford–Stories and Songs

Anne performs lively, interactive programs of stories and songs specially designed for seniors. “I love performing for the older generation,” Anne says. “They really appreciate a good story!” Her upbeat, fun programs include real-life stories that spark audience memories, and songs (accompanied by Anne on her mandolin) that have people tapping their feet and singing along. “After one of my programs, people come up and share their own memories,” Anne says, “and they’re still talking after I leave!”
Anne has programs for seasonal and holiday themes, and will design programs for special events. Recent programs include: Veteran’s Day, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Stories for Spring, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s (& Father’s Day), Courtship Tales, American Tales, and more.
** Anne also has programs specially designed for people with Alzheimer’s, dementia and mild- to severe memory loss. She loves interacting with folks and giving them gentle but engaging entertainment, encouraging easy participation with songs, poems and stories that key into long-term memories. Anne also tells short, sweet stories of everyday life – cutting apples, hanging wash, crunching snow underfoot – that draws on listeners experience and sparks response. “After your performance they came back to the unit and talked and talked!“ said a caregiver for a memory unit Anne gave a Valentine’s show for. “Just about simple things your stories got them to remember.”Anne is happy to work with you to provide her services at an affordable rate – she has a sliding scale fee for memory care units. Or, if your unit is part of a general facility, she can do a performance for the general residents and then the memory care residents on the same day for a reduced rate for both. She also enjoys performing shows for memory-care unit residents and family members, or for benefits for memory units. She’s happy to provide references from other memory care units on request.
“When I left a facility last week, one of the audience members took my hand and said, ‘You brought a lot of joy here today,’ ” Anne says, “I told her – it’s mutual!”
