When she discovers a stone covered in ancient scribbling, everyone wants it: friends, secret police, underground rebels. Suddenly Leyla is forced to flee for her life. She cannot throw the stone away and she cannot give it to anyone. She is forced to make real decisions that carry her life, her family, and her conquered nation in the balance. **”A Walk in the Woods” is the March reading for the Portland Civic Theatre Guild’s First Tuesday Reader’s Theatre. The play will be read at 10:00 am on Tuesday March 2 at The Old Church in downtown Portland. The Old Church is located at 1422 SW 11th (at Clay). Tickets are $6.00 and include coffee and light refreshments. This fictionalized account of a meeting between Russian and American arms negotiators takes place during the 1982 Geneva peace talks. After long, frustrating hours at the bargaining table, the two men share a walk in a quiet woods. Their conversation reveals the elemental differences between their two governments as well as a deepening understanding between the two men. Directed by Jack Featheringill, the play stars two of Portland’s finest actors, Richard Matthews and John Morrison..
