**Reminder that Tapestry Theatre’s production of “1944 Christmas from Home” has returned!This Christmas season, journey back to the 1940s and immerse yourself in the golden age of radio. Swing with their band and singers to the great music of the era, such as “Shoo, Shoo Baby,” “Drum Boogie” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Watch and listen as everyday objects are transformed into sound effects – a jar becomes a bell and boxes of cornstarch create footsteps across a snowy field. Experience the power of the pen as letters are sent to loved ones far away, sharing the mundane and extraordinary, the pain and the joy of life in 1944. **FREE SHOWS FOR THE HOLIDAYS! Go to see “The Holly Jolly Hullabaloo! Red Riding Hood Goes Green”, presented by JANE Theatre Company. “The Holly Jolly Hullabaloo!” is based on the grand tradition of British Panto. This year the theatre company offers their version of Little Red Riding Hood with a global warming message. Red is sent to Grandmama’s house with a basket of “green” items. Along the way she is enticed by a Wolf, befriended by a gaseous Cow, frightened by a lonely Bee, saddened by a wistful Polar Bear, serenaded by a group of Pigs and lectured by a well known global warming expert! **NEW LISTING! I am very excited to announce that we have just listed the Well Arts Institute-Voices of Our Elders Project on ElderAudience. This project offers a variety of creative opportunities for seniors to engage in Memoir and Creative Writing, short story and poetry. Facilitators interact one to one with residents, with questions, encouragement, listening and scribing spoken stories or poems. The artist-assistants can act as scribes, allowing those with physical challenges to fully take part. Participants receive typed and bound manuscripts of their own writing, and and the facility also receives a collection of their residents’ writing. Actors present an on-site reading to celebrate and share the creative work with residents, families and staff!The Voice ofOur Elders project is suitable for Assisted Living, Residential and Memory care residents. Other options are available, such as short readings by actors, based on residents’ stories, which are followed by a Question and Answer session, as well as full blown stage productions with professional actors, which are open to the public. **Just plain Good music!!!Let me give another shout out for long-time musician, Tego Burke.Tego loves performing for seniors. He plays guitar and sings a variety of styles, and he can even provide a “one man band” soundtrack suitable for dancing. **Staged reading of a Masterpiece! Profile Theatre is presenting a Staged Reading of Horton Foote’s adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird, on 1/14-1/24, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm. Location:3430 SE Belmont, in Portland. In 1962 Horton Foote received his first Academy Award for his adaptation to the screen of this Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee. Foote’s screenplay, constructed as a series of episodes recalled by its narrator, Scout, is set in a small Alabama town in 1932 and concerns the trial of an unjustly accused black man who is steadfastly defended by Scout’s father, a respected lawyer in the town. This classic tale examines the painful consequences of hate and prejudice and one man’s courageous efforts to overcome those powerful forces.
